The Museum of The Ruhr at Essen.

One of Germany's largest coal mines (now closed) has been converted into a fantastic museum of the region's history. The coal has run out, but 1000 people are still employed in the facility, mainly in tourism, arts and crafts.

The search for renewable sources of energy is a significant area of research in modern physics.
